Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  How far apart should the hangars be spaced?

A.  Usually every two feet but sometimes every three feet, depending on weight of train.

Q.  Can I easily expand or change the design of the system at a later date?

A.  Yes, the design of the system can be easily changed, however, the structure cannot be changed from a single-train system to a two-train system without buying replacement structure. The modular structure goes together and can come apart with relative ease.

Q.  Does this product allow the use of turnouts and/or switches?

A.  Yes, with some cutting of the plastic structure turnouts can be utilized for G, O, and S train operation.

Q.  Is there a danger of trains derailing?

A.  Trains can derail for a variety of reasons; run properly this should not happen. Use of the guard rails takes care of this problem.

Q.  How difficult is the installation?

A.  Most people with basic skills can install this structure. We are available to do installations if desired.

Q.  Does this system work on a dropped ceiling?

A.  Yes, and quite easily. One by four pieces of wood are cut to fit and sit on top of the ceiling tile providing an anchor for the mounting bracket.

Q.  Must the hangars in a sheetrock ceiling be attached to the wood members?

A.  No, toggle bolts work quite well on a sheetrock ceiling. When a wood member is in the path, then a wood screw is used.

Q.  Will any track work on the structure?

A.  For G scale operation, any track made by a major manufacturer will work. For O, S and Standard, the recommendation is to use Gargraves; they make track specifically for this structure.
